Cork Chamber President, Mr. Joe Gantly, welcomed the announcement by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin that former UCC President Gerry Wrixon has been nominated by the Government as Chairman of the Cork Docklands National Steering Forum.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Gantly highlighted that, "the Cork Docklands Project is a key element of future economic development for the region which requires a strong and focused leadership. Clearly Gerry Wrixon possesses all of the attributes necessary to ensure that the project is delivered in a timely manner and achieves maximum potential. The Chamber fully supports his appointment".

"This announcement is a positive step forward for the project and we now await more complete details regarding the terms of reference, structure and membership of the Steering Group which we understand will be announced by the Taoiseach in the coming weeks", concluded the Chamber President.

Cork could surpass Dublin and become one of the most attractive locations for investment in Europe, according to Greg Coughlan, chief executive of property development company Howard Holdings.
