Minister Kelleher Announces Cork Company to make Major R&D Investment

19 October, 2009

The Minister for Trade and Commerce Billy Kelleher T.D. today (Monday 19th October 2009) announced that Cork internet services company Newsweaver is to create 33 new high value jobs in Bandon and make a strategic €700k investment in R&D with Enterprise Ireland support in order to address new markets.

Newsweaver, which counts the UN, Shell, AIB, Bupa and Phillips among its client base, provides Software as a Service to enable companies publish and send electronic newsletters to their customers.

Making the announcement, the Minister said: “This investment and the creation of 33 new high-value jobs is significant not just for Newsweaver but for Bandon and the West Cork region. Over the next ten years, services will be the key driver of Ireland's economic success and job creation and Newsweaver is a prime example of the type of Irish internationally traded services companies that can be part of that wave.

“Innovation is a critical component in driving the successful internationalisation and scaling up of Irish services companies and I commend Newsweaver on making this investment in research and development that will position them for international growth,” the Minister added.

Andrew O’Shaughnessy of Newsweaver said: “Email newsletters help build strong customer relationships which are absolutely essential in difficult economic conditions. That is the basis for our growth plans. We are very grateful to Enterprise Ireland for their continued support of our R&D, which has been crucial in our growth to date.”

Enterprise Ireland’s Head of Internationally Traded Services Kevin Sherry added: “Newsweaver is a company that is outstripping international competitors through its commitment to continuous improvement and product development. It is the company’s flexible, business model that has seen Newsweaver secure the business of its international high calibre client base and this latest R&D investment will help ensure it stays ahead of the pack with its sophisticated service offering. Enterprise Ireland is delighted to support this dynamic company in its efforts to secure further export growth
